3 Ways to End Knee Pain

Reduce Knee PainIt is reported that more than 18 million runners will injure themselves this year (I hate even writing such a negative quote), and the part that will be banged up the most will be the knee. A study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise states that over-training, repetitive high impact, and tight hamstrings can create knee trauma. The good news is that it can be prevented.

HOW:

1. Stretch– Do hamstring stretches after every run says Stephen Messier, Ph.D., director of Wake Forrest University’s Runners’ Clinic

2. New Gear– Buy new shoes every 500 miles! Shock absorption is very important, and it wears then over time.

3. Slow and Steady Win the Race – Messier says adding too much mileage too soon creates extra tension on the knees. Increase your distance by no more than 5% each week if you wish for the pain to be prevented.

On a side note…I have noticed that certain shoes make my running less painful. For instance these shoes are the best to me for running and keeping the knees healthy:

Today I got my cardio out of the way early. I had one too many cookies last night, so I will make up for it today by trying not to over do it on the sugar today. It is all about balance. So where I live I have mapped out a safe course to ride my bike. It a huge circle, where 2 laps equals 1 mile. Anyway I just finished doing 16 laps…8 miles. So in working with my ‘just one more rep’ theory, tomorrow I plan to do 17 laps in about the same amount of time(26 mins–it was windy today.) While I waited for my shower to warm, I did 32 reps of military press with 40 lb dumbells in each hand. It took me a while to work up to this. I only could do 20 reps barely. I use this exercise as a meter to let me know if I am getting weak or stronger.

Now my next task throughout the day will be stomach work. I plan to do swing ups throughout the day. Let me know what you plan to do for your workout today?

Exercises that Tone and Reshape Your Body:Day1

Goals today:
-31 minutes of cycling with 12 rounds using my timer.
-Drink 2 glasses of water every hour.
-Military Press 30 times everytime I remember throughout the day.
-10 sets of swing-ups
-10 sets of 10 pull-ups
-10 sets of 100 jumps

My thoughts: I am seeing that my body is now stronger than the normal male my age. I want to safely maintain this. I work within my limits, while still challenging myself for one more rep. Each day I have to increase this base number.

Your Goal:
To set your base. You have seen how I challenge myself. I want you to pick a few exercises(at least 3) targeting the areas you need work on most. I want you to record how many reps you can do in one minute. Record the weight used, if any. Tomorrow we will try to increase the rep by 1 or 1/2 a rep, ok?
When exercising to shape your body, you need to challenge your system. The last three reps of any exercise should be a challenge. If you want to see serious fast results, you need to make the last 3 reps hard to complete. Do this safely. You will tone and build a noticeably beautiful body in no time.
With your eating today, try and focus on fresh items. Berries, proteins and vegetables should be the base of your diet. Try to avoid the sugars and all starchy carbohydrates today–stick with fibrous carbohydrates and proteins.
